Non-Attachment: A Practice You Need!

Do you want peace?

Do you want release from all suffering?

Then, make non-attachment your bitch. 😉

In all seriousness, though, this must become your practice.

Why are are we afraid of being non-attached? Why are we afraid of becoming unattached to relationships, the length of time that relationships last, to status, to fame, to power, to material things, etc.?

“Contrary to what some people might believe, there is nothing wrong with having pleasures and enjoyments. What is wrong is the confused way we grasp onto these pleasures, turning them from a source of happiness into a source of pain and dissatisfaction.” – Lama Yeshe

I love this quote because it really does get to the heart of the matter. It’s not (always) the external stuff that is the problem. It is our attachment to the external stuff that becomes problematic. And we cling to external stuff because we want things to stay the same. But this is an insane practice because nothing stays the same.

The only thing guaranteed in life is change.

Tweet it: {We must practice non-attachment so that we can embrace change and be at peace.}

So, let’s explore this today. It is, without question, a practice that you need. But don’t take my word for it. First, experience it for yourself.

All my love,
Heather

loved this! definitely feeling the strings of attachment to certain things, people and emotions in my life! I love that you said they only thing we can count on is change…I’ve always felt that way! and to me, change is exciting, and hard, but necessary for growth! feeling the growing pains in certain areas of my life right now that I haven’t fully let go, but youve given me the extra encouragement and push I need! thank you! xo

Hii Heather ;)! Loved this one and perfect timing for me. Attachment in my relationship is currently my biggest struggle – future tripping/jealousy/suspicion/clinginess – I think I’ve done it all .. Ugh, Never works out the way we want it to does it?? I could really use practice this one..! Thank you XO

Kaiti! Missing you presence already. 😉 This process will SO help you release it all. I promise. Love to you!

    Hey Heather,
Wow, we must be on the same wavelength, because I also blogged about this topic on Tuesday. (http://wakingupinwonder.com/non-attachment-materialism/)
I loved your video and just shared it! The biggest challenge for me in terms of letting go is always letting go of other people doing things differently from how I think they “should” be done (to be best, most efficient, etc.) Thanks for making this!
    xx
    Valerie

Woop woop! Go girl. We *are* all connected, so it doesn’t surprise me one bit. 😉 xo

    This is beautiful!

I’ve been called to detach from the need to rely on external – so to speak – experts. I got SO many mails, newsletters, downloads, worksheets etc on “how to finally find peace” within, I “save” them to use later, when my time to become a spiritual guide and mentor is due. Does it make any sense? It’s like I’m attached to the belief that I need their expertise in order to succeed on my own. So they wrote this awesome post that helped me and inspired me; better safe it, right?
What I’ve realized is that it actually blocks me, it takes up SO much space on my computer, in my mind – both conscious and subconscious. I don’t get shit done because I get bombarded with info from others.

So here’s what I’ll do – Thank them for their help so far, pray for them and DELETE! Unsubscribe and choose ONLY a handful of mentors in different areas of my life; those who empower me and just doesn’t promise me a better life when buying their program (again!).

Thanks Heather. Been a while since I’ve checked in on you; glad I did today <3

Amen, sister. I know how you feel because I was once there too. So proud of you for doing that for yourself. It’s another form of attachment (and addiction) that 100% blocks you. I actually just-so-happened to see that you unsubscribed when I went into my newsletter service dashboard last week and I could *feel* this exact situation resonating from you. You don’t need anyone to tell you anything in order for you to heal yourself. You just need to let God guide you to your guides and make your connection to God numero uno. I have so much compassion for you because I see so much of myself in you. I’m praying for you and sending you all my love, Marie. You are a sweet, beautiful soul. xo

OMG Heather, did you just knock my socks of completely! Speak about the Universe, to minds think alike etc… Thank you for your replay, I just learned so much in that. It is funny how you see so much of yourself in me, cause I feel the exact same thing. I said to my mom one day that I feel like you are a part of me, just a couple of miles ahead on the healing journey to becoming oneself.

I have been receiving several signs over the past couple of weeks about my chakras and the blockages I have (have been working on/off on them for the past 11 months). What keep coming up is the SoMM – and then I remembered that you have been a student of it 🙂 Belinda won’t tell me WHAT to do with my life, but will help me find my own answer, correct?
Thank you for your great support. It used to make me cry when others send me their genuine love, now I can happily tell you that it makes me smile and feel energized.
        Love ya likewise, soulsista <3
Ps. Thanks for sharing your divine words and wisdom, and for shining your light. It reminds me of my own.

          Hi sweetheart,

I so appreciate your honesty and your truth. We are certainly a part of each other. 😉

SoMM is an incredible program to go through and I’m really proud to be an affiliate for it. Working on your chakras through SoMM will change your life! It certainly did for me. I am going to be doing a special vlog for it next week, so I’ll be able to answer your questions about it. Do you have any other questions that I can address for you in the vlog to help you decide whether it’s the right fit for you? Let me know and I’ll pop ’em in there.

          So much love,
          Heather

Thank you for this video, Heather! I am detaching from SO MANY things right now. I’m in the midst real life overhaul, so this video could not have come at a better time. You mentioned relationships. I think I need to detach from “needing” a relationship. I have been single for a while now and heart sick about it. Also, by the by, your hair looks amazing in this video!

    • Heather Waxman August 18, 2015

Great observation, sister. Just finished reading your BODYpeace blogs. You have a *gift* for writing, Eva! Oh, and thanks for the compliment … the hair was on point huh? 😉

I always stumble upon the right video of yours at just the right time! so crazy! thanks for that 🙂 . I have an attachment to a guy that doesn’t want the same thing I want, yet I still was sticking around (for about a year now on and off) But now I finally have come to terms that I need to let him go. I just don’t know HOW, It scares the shit out of me! I will have to ask for a miracle and try to deal with the uncomfortable feelings of the detox.

When you were talking about searching for a new job, a question occurred to me: How do we manifest without attachment? Whenever someone talks about manifesting it seems they encourage us to be very specific. This specificity seems to strengthen our intention, and (for me) makes me feel more power. Is this intention a form of attachment? Maybe you could discuss on periscope one day. I would love to know your thoughts.

My hat is off to your astute command over this toicr-bpavo!

  • I got to the point where I knew the answer would be revealed by a “O_____ of O_____” phrase pretty quickly. Then… nothing. I knew it had to be a city, but all I could come up with were things like “out of order,” “oath of office,” “Oil of Olay.” I guess I just wasn’t familiar with “Oracle of Omaha.” Thankfully, Wikipedia saved the day.

  • All Jewisms have their source in their books, that is what must be made illegal to own or read. If you want to stop the Jews once and for all time, take away their books.

It’s a relief to find someone who can explain things so well

  • You bring up a good point. In addition to expanding their areas of coverage, AT&T should definitely ensure their long-term plans include identifying and reducing the number of dead zones, in areas where coverage is already provided and limited. Thanks for the great comment.

Dymphna , I did read the post but decided upon a little joke . I am actually already on an operations group planing to deal with pandemic flu , when it arrives . I wonder if our planing will survive first contact with the flu ?

  • You look so adorable Chelle, I love how you always manage to pop girly accents into any outfit you are wearing. I checked out the Aldo site yesterday and fell in love with those too! The cutest in their Spring line up so far, in my opinion! I'm considering them as well… might just have to cave and get them! How's the quality on them? Leather soles/upper?Hope you're having a lovely week!Jen
